| Capriotti's: Full Review | ||||||||||||
|
I finally got a chance to visit Capriotti's, a place that a friend of mine describes as "the best sandwich shop in the world." Although I wouldn't necessarily go that far, this place kicks some serious sandwich butt when compared to the nationally recognized chains.
Capriotti's started more than two decades ago in Delaware but has established a beachhead in Vegas with eight locations throughout the valley. The most convenient ones to the Strip are located at 322 W. Sahara, about a block west of the Sahara hotel and at 4983 W. Flamingo, roughly a mile and a half west of The Rio Suites. Their standard subs cover all the bases including turkey, roast beef, Italian, ham & cheese, tuna, salami, meatball, and steak on which you can get your choice of cheeses and all the fixings. But before your eyes start glazing over, take a look at the prices: $6 to $6.50 for a small, $7 to $7.50 for a medium and $10 to $11 for a large. A lot of money you may be thinking. Well, how's this for a wake up call - the small is 9", the medium is a foot long, and the large is an almost insane 20"! I got the 9" cheese steak and I wasn't able to finish it all. As delicious and fresh as these "regular" sandwiches are, it's the so-called "Cap's Specials" that really set the place apart. You could try Thanksgiving on a roll with "The Bobbie," featuring turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. Or perhaps you'd prefer the "Slaw Be Jo" with roast beef, cole slaw, provolone cheese, and Russian dressing. These specials are totally unique, completely delicious, and priced within a few pennies of the "regular" sandwiches. They also offer hamburgers and sausage subs, smaller regular sandwiches, vegetarian meatless soy subs (turkey, bologna, salami, etc.), and gigantic party platters. The food tastes a lot fresher than that stuff you'll find at the national chains, the portions are larger, and the selection is much more interesting so the next time you're in Vegas, bypass the hotel food court and head off to Capriotti's for a taste of what a real sandwich is all about.
