Every major Las Vegas hotel/casino has some form of a 24-hour diner. Most serve the kind of food you'd expect in such a place and often for prices that are cheaper than most of the other restaurants in the building. But these days, even the 24-hour diners at The Strip hotels are pricey affairs where a burger is going to cost you at least $10 and more if you want anything on it (like bacon, as God intended it).
Thank goodness then for places like the Market Street Café at The California in Downtown Las Vegas. Their burgers? $5-7. And they come with fries!
But burgers aren't the only thing they offer on their wide ranging menu. There is a big, well-stocked salad bar; plenty of sandwiches from club to pastrami; full meals including things like pork chops, country fried steak, and even a one-pound t-bone steak; a full breakfast menu served 24-hours and more. Because this hotel caters to tourists from Hawaii and Asia, there are even some Asian inspired dishes including teriyaki chicken and beef, curry stew pots, and the traditional salmin dish popular in our 50th state.
And if you thought those "meal deal" specials were a thing of the past, check out the graveyard specials section of the menu with things like a NY steak for $5, a full breakfast for $3, and their steak and shrimp combo for $8.
Prices are a big selling point here with most items on the menu under $10 and only a few that are a couple of dollars more than that.
Of course it wouldn't matter how cheap it was if it wasn't any good and the good news is that here, it is. Everything we sampled came with hearty flavors in very large portions and made for a really good lunch experience. Now, don't come here if you're looking for the most recent haute cuisine or some sort of epicurean feast, but for good food at great prices with friendly service, Market Street Café should definitely be on your list.
