Southern Highlands Wins Approval

We had already heard about the Tropicana delaying its multi-billion makeover until at least 2008 but now comes word that the Southern Highlands Resort is also on hold until next year. The $1 billion project from Olympia Gaming was to break ground at the far southern end of the Vegas Valley this summer with an opening in 2010. Now the shovels won’t turn until 2008 at the earliest and the opening date move back accordingly.

Southern Highlands Wins Approval

Southern Highlands, the new “locals” casino hotel planned for the southern part of Las Vegas, won approval from the Clark County Commissioner to bring in the construction crews and get to work. The resort will be built at the intersection of St. Rose Parkway and Interstate 15 about 10 miles south of Mandalay Bay and will feature a 3,200 room hotel (done in phases with the first phase containing about 1,400), a huge casino, restaurants, entertainment facilities, and more. Ground breaking on the first phase is expected this summer with completion anticipated for early 2008.

New Casino Set For South Las Vegas

The Strip just got a lot longer as the Clark County Commissioners approved a plan to build a new $750 million casino-hotel at Las Vegas Blvd. and St. Rose Parkway. I know, you have no clue where St. Rose Parkway is, right? Well, if you have ever made the drive in from Los Angeles you’ll probably remember that Interstate 15 takes a curve to the left and suddenly Las Vegas pops into view, glittering out there in the desert about 12 miles away. St. Rose Parkway is right there.

The Southern-Highlands Casino Resort will feature 610 rooms, a casino, restaurants, entertainment facilities, and more and is expected to open in 2008.
