Vegas4Visitors Museum: The Aladdin
The Aladdin opened in 1963, one of many of the Arabian Desert themed hotels in town like The Dunes, The Sahara, and to a lesser degree The Sands. Located in the Center Strip, across from what was the Dunes (and is now Bellagio), one of it's biggest claims to fame was when it hosted the wedding of Elvis Presley and his young bride Priscilla. The hotel was closed and imploded in 1998 to make way for the new Aladdin, which opened in 2000. That hotel sank into bankruptcy (the largest in Nevada history at more than $700 million) and was purchased by the Planet Hollywood corporation. It was remodeled and rebranded and now operates as the Planet Hollywood Resort.

    80s Postcard - Exterior
This photo postcard was one in a series issued by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

It is a standard press shot of the exterior of the old Aladdin hotel, which opened in 1966 and was torn down in 1998 to make way for the current Aladdin. If you look closely you can see Jefferson Starship and Heart on the marquee meaning this shot was probably taken sometime in the mid-80s.

    60s Postcard - Genie's Lamp
This photo postcard was one in a series issued by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Here’s another one of those pure-kitsch, only-in-Vegas spectacles showing a scantily clad woman arising from a giant genie's lamp to promote the Aladdin. The photo is undated but is probably from the late 1960s.

This photo postcard was one in a series issued by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

This photograph shows the implosion of the original Aladdin in April of 1998. The new Aladdin opened in 2000 in the same location.
