Vegas4Visitors Museum: The Castaways
The Castaways was one of a long succession of hotel-casinos that operated on the land next door to what would eventually become Caesars Palace. After years as the San Souci, new owners changed the name to The Castaways in 1963, a name it kept until it was torn down in 1987 to make way for The Mirage.

    80s Postcard - Exterior
This colorful postcard shows the exterior of the Castaways casino along Las Vegas Boulevard, roughly where The Mirage’s Volcano is currently located. Note the sign in the background advertising 97% return on slot machines.

The postcard is not dated but probably came from the mid 1980s.

    Room Key & Postcard
This very rare part of Vegas history includes a postcard and an actual room key and tag from the Castaways hotel. It’s hard to see in this photograph, but the key is from room 160 and the address of the hotel (3328 Las Vegas Blvd. South) is clear.
