Vegas4Visitors Museum: El Rancho (1982-1992)

This was actually the second El Rancho on the Las Vegas Strip and the two were completely unrelated. The first opened in 1941 and burned down in 1960. This El Rancho, located on the north end of The Strip across from Circus-Circus, was opened in 1982 when the owners of The Silverbird (which opened in 1948 as The Thunderbird) remodeled and rethemed the resort. It struggled financially for many years and closed in 1987. It sat vacant for more than a decade and was torn down in 2001. It is a vacant lot as of this writing.

    80s Postcard - Color 3-Shot
This color postcard shows three shots of the El Rancho including an expansive view of the exterior (which may look familiar to many Vegas visitors as the derelict hotel it would become), the casino, and the pool area. It is undated but must be from the 1980s since that is the only decade in which the hotel operated under this name and theme.
