Vegas4Visitors Museum: Slot Machines

When slot machines debuted in Las Vegas casinos they were mostly relegated to the sidelines – something for the “women folk” to play while their husbands gambled at the more serious table games. Today, slot and video poker machines take up the bulk of the space on casino floors and generate the bulk of the income derived from gambling. Over the years their colorful facades have become almost worthy of being called “art.”

    Bonus Poker Glass
This will look familiar to just about anyone who has played video poker. It’s the front panel glass from a Bonus Poker machine produced by International Game Technology and would’ve appeared either in the main panel beneath the video screen and just above the coin hopper or in some instances in a top panel above the video screen.

    $1.00 Slot Glass
Also from an International Game Technology machine, this $1.00 front panel most likely appeared at the bottom under the reels and above the coin hopper. It’s relatively simple design probably dates it as being from the 1980s since machines produced in the 1990s and beyond featured much more decorative glass.
