Vegas4Visitors Museum: Stardust

The Stardust opened in 1958 on the north end of The Strip between what was then the New Frontier and what would become Circus-Circus. Capitalizing on a space-age theme that was popular at the time, the Stardust went on to become one of the most popular casinos of its era. It was announced in early 2006 that the Stardust would close and be torn down to make way for a new $4 billion complex of hotels and casinos that would be called Echelon Place.

    60s Slot Machine Glass
This colorful glass panel is from a Stardust slot machine, most likely from the 1960s. Although no manufacturer is indicated and no other clues are given on the machine, it’s possible that it could’ve been used in an early iteration of the “Win a Car” carousels that are still common today. The car in the background behind the Stardust logo most closely resembles a 1964 or 1965 Ford Galaxy, which would’ve fit in nicely with the hotel’s theme.

    60s Postcard - Exterior
This postcard was one in a series issued by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

This shot is taken from the northern end of the property, near where Circus Circus is now located. It shows the main casino building and the iconic marquee advertising their long-running topless revue Lido de Paris.
