The Stardust opened in 1958 on the north end of The Strip between what was then the New Frontier and what would become Circus-Circus. Capitalizing on a space-age theme that was popular at the time, the Stardust went on to become one of the most popular casinos of its era. It was announced in early 2006 that the Stardust would close and be torn down to make way for a new $4 billion complex of hotels and casinos that would be called Echelon Place.
