The Tropicana opened in 1957 at the far south end of the Las Vegas Strip, which was at the time one of the few outposts in the area (along with The Hacienda, which had opened the year before). Its colorful stained glass décor and upscale amenities earned it the nickname “The Tiffany of The Strip.” The hotel is still in business as of early 2006 but is rumored to be nearing a date with the wrecking ball, perhaps before the end of the year.
