| An Evening at La Cage: Full Review | ||||||||||||||
|
La Cage differs from other impersonator shows in two fundamental ways. First, the performers, for the most part, lip synch to recordings of whomever they are imitating. Unlike say Legends in Concert, where the impersonators are both look and sound a-likes, these folks are getting by merely on looks alone. Second, the performers are all men, dressing up to look like Diana Ross or whomever. Call them female impersonators, call them "gender illusionists," or heck, just call them drag queens provided that you do it with the proper amount of respect. The only exception to the aforementioned lip-synching exception is the host(ess) Frank Marino, who does a passable, if predictable, Joan Rivers as emcee. It's a light-hearted show and a perfectly acceptable way to spend a night in Vegas, but it's certainly not our first choice. There are better shows for the money.
